Business Leaders Against Question 1

Please join us in supporting Coalition for our Communities, a broad and diverse group of organizations, businesses, and people who are working to defeat Question 1 on this year's Massachusetts ballot.

Question 1 is a foolish, destructive proposition that would be a total disaster if passed and implemented. It proposes to entirely eliminate the income tax in Massachusetts. You read that right - not trim it back or change it or make it progressive, just eliminate it. This would eliminate 40% of the state's total revenues, $12 billion, and would wreak unfathomable damage to our state. It is crucial that people like us from the private sector lend our names to the fight against this foolishness and show our support by making a meaningful contribution.

We all know that times are very tough. We know that many people would love to learn that they could get their 5.3% state income tax back and still have the roads, schools, policemen, hospitals and safety net upon which they depend. But that is simply not the case. The income tax allows our state and our communities to offer the services we all need.

It is important that we work together to defeat this question and make clear to everyone, especially the Governor, the Legislature, and opinion leaders, that the time for this sort of cynical game is over, that we support courageous leadership to reform and improve government operations, and that we believe in innovation and continuous improvement.

Thanks!
